Support Native Sovereignties Image

Congress is, yet again, making an unwarranted grab for power, and this time it has its eye set on the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The BIA, led by Deputy Bureau Director Michael Smith of the Oneida tribe, is responsible for 55.7 million acres of land held by the US in trust for Native Americans.

Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) introduced H.R. 3744, the Tribal Recognition Act, which would require all tribes seeking federal recognition to go through Congress. It is a clear effort to undermine the autonomy of the BIA, taking the decision making process out of the hands of this country’s native population and putting it back in the hands of the white majority. The bill goes to the Natural Resources Committee next week and, if approved, to a vote following (date TBD).

Please reach out to your representatives and tell them you don’t wish for the BIA to lose its autonomy and its ability to make decisions for the people they represent. Call 202-224-3121 or text RESIST to 50409 and follow the prompts.

We are prepared to fight white supremacy in all its forms. Join us Saturday in Boston to stand up against hate, or find an action near you. You can also donate to support the victims and Charlottesville community.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Health Care Death Card

The CBO predicts that under the proposed Senate bill, 22 million more people will be uninsured by 2026 (source). For the most vulnerable among us, this is a death sentence.

Contact your senators and let them know that you oppose the Republican health care bill.
